Independent Report Confirms Thriving Southland’s Positive Impact on Farmers and the Environment
Key findings include:
Enhanced capability: 86% of respondents said Thriving Southland has helped build their ability to drive change.
Improved connections: 89% reported better relationships with scientists and experts, turning Catchment Groups into hubs for shared learning.
Meaningful change: From 2020 to 2024, the percentage of Catchment Group members using science to guide farm decisions increased from 14% to 83%.
The report highlights that Thriving Southland’s backbone support has created a foundation for sustainable progress. With more than 3,600 people attending 238 events this year, participation in Catchment Groups is rising, along with increased support from local stakeholders.

According to the report, Thriving Southland is strengthening local collaborations, supporting farmers in adapting to climate and water quality priorities, and building community resilience. The report also notes that while substantial progress has been made, continued support is key to sustaining the impact of our work.
