Period:
April 22 to April 23
Project Description
To explore on-farm biodiversity and local bush blocks with expert Prof David Norton, who recently retired from the University of Canterbury where he taught and researched ecology and conservation of New Zealand’s native biodiversity.
Participants will get the opportunity to look at both established native bush blocks, how to look after them on a commercial farm, but also how to expand property biodiversity in tree lanes, small plantings, and riparian plantings.
Prof David Norton will cover what is biodiversity and why it is important, what biodiversity might there be on farm and an introduction to managing biodiversity.
Objectives
Participants gain knowledge on farm biodiversity and understand how to look after existing biodiversity.
Increase knowledge of what is in local bush blocks and an increase of biodiversity on farm.
Outcomes
Increased awareness of biodiversity through the event being open to all across Southland.
Catchment Group has good knowledge of what biodiversity they currently have in their catchment and how to look after it and know steps to take to establish more biodiversity long term.
